BASEMENT JAXX "Flylife" (Poster Print)

We were once huge fans of the duo Simon Ratcliffe and Felix Buxton also known Basement Jaxx having collected well over 20 singles, EP’s, and remixes leading up to their debut release “Remedy” on XL Recordings in 1999. In house circles, they were mostly know for the hugely popular singles “FlylIfe”, “Samba Magic”, “Red Alert”, “Rendez-Vu”, and “Jump N’ Shout”  but also produced almost all the singles on their Atlantic Jaxx label including staples like Corinna Joseph’s “Lonely” and “Live My Life With Me”. Their remix credentials are way too long to list here but include everyone from Kim English, to Adonis, Roy Davis Jr. Roni Size, Pet Shop Boys, and even INXS.We would argue the Brixton duo ushered in the Mash Up trend, releasing numerous white label remixes of Emimem/The Jam, EARTH,Wind, & Fire and Inner City (Good Life) which were some of our personal favourites.Champions of individuality and a scrappy do it yourself attitude, The Jaxx, at the time fused an eclectic mix of ragga, brazilian, jazzy, and Timberland-esque rhythm patterns. Influenced by Masters At Work, Strictly Rhythm, And Nervous records but in many ways more frantic and engaging, it felt like their music was often going to collapse in on itself and everyone in the room.
