“Cosmic Slop” is the fifth studio album by Funkadelic, released in 1973 on Westbound Records and the lead single of the same name is considered one of best songs they ever recorded.
It’s a haunting tale of a single-parent, five-child family living in poverty, and the sacrifices the mother must make in order to put food on the table, including prostituting herself.
“Cosmic Slop” is also the very first LP to feature the work of Pedro Bell who went on to design all of the covers for Funkadelic and Parliament going forward.
As major Funkadelic/Parliament/P-Funk Allstars fans, we were only slightly embarrassed that we had only most recently discovered the promo video Cosmic Slop. It reminded us of demonic found footage film and decided to do an homage to the genre.
